Are you mobile yet?

Recently, we have looked at how the prices of mobile clicks in Google AdWords compare to those that come from traditional computers. Today, I would like to explore mobile in a bit more detail, and look at how we at interactive.agency have experienced the trend.

According to Mobile Planet research in early 2012, 97% users accessed the web through computers and 90% users accessed the web through mobile devices.  Next year, these numbers will be turned around – by 2013, more people will access the web through a mobile device than through a computer.

We were curious if the same trends apply to our Slovenian clients. We looked at one of our biggest clients’ traffic and compared September 2011 with September 2012:

While the numbers vary slightly across industries and clients, the trend we have observed is similar for all our clients and in line with the global trends.

Globally, mobile search has grown 400% in the past year. Google Search is generally used as a starting point for online shopping and therefore, it is the place to be when potential buyers are researching a product or service. The CEE Telco Industry Report for 2011 suggests that 1 in 3 online shoppers in the CEE region owns a smartphone, with Slovenia being among the leaders for both use of online shopping and the percentage of smartphones amongst mobile phone owners.

At the same time, 79% of large online advertisers (globally) do not yet have a mobile-optimized site  and many do not run mobile-specific advertising campaigns. This means that the majority of players in the online advertising market is still losing potential visitors and customers. Are you still one of them?
